The autonomous institution of the Government of Sindh entrusted with preserving, promoting and digitising the Sindhi language — its literature, script and living heritage.
About the Authority
The Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) is an autonomous body operating under the administrative control of the Department of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Government of Sindh, Pakistan. Established in 1991, its first Board of Governors was constituted under the chairmanship of the renowned scholar Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Khan Baloch. Since then, distinguished writers and academics have led the institution in advancing the cause of the Sindhi language.
The Authority's mandate spans research, publication and preservation — from compiling dictionaries and thesauri to producing the peer-reviewed Sindhi Boli research journal, publishing rare books through its Qaleech Kitab Ghar bookshop, and documenting Sindh's heritage through the Encyclopedia Sindhiana. It regularly convenes seminars, conferences and children's festivals to keep the language alive across generations.
In recent years the Authority has invested heavily in language technology, launching online dictionaries covering over 300,000 words, a virtual library, a Sindhi keyboard and OCR tools, and a structured e-learning platform — extending the reach of Sindhi to learners and researchers around the world.
